In 1989 Heidelberg Cement became one of the first international companies to invest in the emerging markets of CEE, following the region's dramatic political and economic transformation.  Since that time, our company has steadily increased its presence throughout the region.  Step-by-step we have acquired new facilities, in most cases through national privatization processes.  We have then made major investments in each of those facilities to upgrade their production capabilities, develop their energy efficiency, enhance employment conditions and ensure the safety of their workers, and significantly improve the facilities' impact on the environment.

Today, HeidelbergCement's network of companies in Central Europe East is unparalleled in its size, production capability, efficiency, product quality and environmental performance. With more than 200 production facilities in eight countries, we are the largest investor in the construction and building materials industry in the region, and the result of that investment shows in the level of what we achieve every day on behalf of our millions of customers throughout CEE.
