HeidelbergCement has been active in Bosnia and Herzegovina since 2000, when it acquired a majority interest in the Kakanj Cement plant and entered the market for ready mixed concrete.
The Kakanj Cement plant, situated 50 km from Sarajevo, is the larger of two cement plants in the country and produces various types of high-quality cement. The cement produced by the Kakanj plant has been essential to the construction of some of the nation's most important infrastructural, architectural and civil industry projects, among them the hydroelectric power plants Bocac, Salakovac, Mostar and Visegrad. HeidelbergCement has begun implementing a major investment program for the Kakanj plant, focused on modernization of the facility, with a primary focus on environmental improvement.
In January 2000, HeidelbergCement also started ready mixed concrete activities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the opening of TBG Reweus in Lukavac. The holding company for RMC activities in the country is TBG BH d.o.o. In 2002, TBG BH acquired the majority-share interest in the RMC company Eurobeton Sarajevo, changing its name into TBG Eurobeton. Today, both companies are completely owned by TBG BH, and in 2004 all three companies were joined into one under the name TBG BH d.o.o.
